Redefining Leadership Role In The New World Of Work

It has come to no surprise that today’s workforce requires or rather demands for new leadership. People want their leaders and peers to display inclusive behaviours on a daily basis.

According to a search report by Deloitte, “The behaviours of leaders (be they senior executives or managers) can drive up to 70 percentage points of difference between the proportion of employees who feel highly included and the proportion of those who do not.”

In an exclusive virtual event on the aspects of Leadership and Human Resources on the 29th of May 2021 presented by BW People, Paul Dupius, CEO and Managing Director, Randstad India expressed in his keynote about his fine thoughts upon this subject in a very conversational and analytical manner.

He began with the most unconventional thought and preached to not call this time as ‘new-normal’ as nothing happening right now is normal, instead it should be termed as ‘new world.’

The new model of leadership for Paul in present times dates back in history when with the invention of wheel there was no looking back, hence he relates to this new world also with unstoppable beat. Paul claims that, “Today’s leadership should be more on grounds of leading with purpose which has always been all over the walls, books, libraries but took really long for us to figure out that it’s the sheer purpose only with which we have been able to surpass such adverse and fatal conditions.”

Also, leaders who embraced this purpose are now able to run their organisations in a more effective and smooth manner. Paul also stated that leaders ought to learn to grow via thriving tough times and not mere surviving it through as thriving brings out crisis and which in turn helps bring an opportunity of growth.

Citing his own example of leadership in past 14 months, Paul explained the algorithm he adopted with which he has been able to come out with flying colours; “Outcome stands of least importance.”

“With right set of people, primarily going with right values and skillsets secondly; supported by compelling vision like purpose; having leadership which walks the talk; who lives, breathes those values and are passionate enough to bring those values to life; along with usage of right tools- gives rise to right outcomes finally.

In today’s times its very important to see through the time devoted to performing leadership duties at best as we tend to spend time in gym in order to get our bodies into required shape.

Lastly, Paul also pointed out for ‘new world leaders’ to embrace the technology in order to be future ready.
