Reddit has become a platform where employees openly share workplace grievances, and one recent post has gone viral after a former employee of a mental health startup shared her experience of being fired for liking a LinkedIn post about toxic work environments.
The anonymous ex-employee claimed she was terminated because she 'liked' a LinkedIn post that criticised toxic workplaces. She detailed the toxic work culture at her company, describing both her manager and CEO as major contributors to a hostile environment. According to her, the constant stress and negativity impacted her mental health, leaving her frequently in tears at work.
In her Reddit post, the former employee painted a harrowing picture of her time at the startup. “The manager made my life miserable at work. She was extremely hostile but acted innocent around the CEO,” she wrote. The CEO, whom she described as “a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” further worsened the situation, negatively affecting her mental health to the point where her distress became visible to her colleagues.
“I would cry in the office bathroom. It was unbearable,” she added, recounting the emotional toll her job took on her.
The situation escalated when the CEO accused her of spreading misinformation about the company, allegedly triggered by her 'liking' a LinkedIn post that criticized toxic workplaces. Without any prior warning, the CEO called her in and terminated her employment.
“I was fired because I liked a post about toxic workplaces on LinkedIn,” she wrote, explaining that the CEO believed she was "spreading false information" about the company.
The post quickly went viral, with Reddit users flooding the comments to express their opinions on the situation. One user, 'WanderingPoet19,' commented, “Mental Health Startup with a toxic work environment? The irony is painful. This is the reality of the corporate world—they claim you can speak up, but when you do, they silence you.”
