Employer's Holiday 'No Sick Days' Policy Sparks Backlash

The controversial notice declared: “From November 25th until December 31st, there will be a complete blackout on vacation days, time off, and absolutely no exceptions for sick days"

During peak work seasons, such as the festive holidays, many employers impose restrictions on vacation time. These limitations can range from fewer days off and longer shifts to shorter lunch breaks. However, one employer's strict holiday policy recently sparked outrage online after it went viral on Reddit for its extreme nature.

The controversial notice declared: “From November 25th until December 31st, there will be a complete blackout on vacation days, time off, and absolutely no exceptions for sick days. As these are our busiest weeks, we require all hands on deck. Thank you.”

The rigid policy did not sit well with Reddit users. Some criticised the employer for exploiting workers during a high-pressure period, while others shared their own experiences of struggling to secure time off during the holidays.

One user sarcastically commented, “If you die, you have to inform the management 3 days prior.” Another added, “Christmas is for everyone, except the employees.”
