IndiGo "On The Go," To Support Its Employees In Such Hard Times

IndiGo Airlines on Thursday has announced setting up of a 13-beded dedicated COVID care centre in collaboration with Columbia Asia Hospital in Gurugram, for the COVID positive employees who may need access to an oxygen bed with related medical facilities.

The company has extended this facility to the the employees and their family as well.

The airline is also known to have commenced their vaccination drives across 40 stations in its network and at its support centre at Gurugram and there are drives planned for some additional stations later this month.

“It’s absolutely important that our frontline employees feel safe, healthy and are protected as much as possible from the virus. They are in the forefront of providing a national service and deserve to feel protected from the pandemic. At IndiGo, we believe that none of us are alone and we wanted to make sure that we support them as much as we can. Vaccinating is one of the basic safety protocols in addition to wearing a mask and keeping safe distance. We are collaborating with private hospitals as well as working closely with airport operators in this endeavour,” states Raj Raghavan, Senior VP and Head of Human Resources at IndiGo.

But this is dependent on vaccine supplies and how quickly these will be made available by the government and private hospitals, it said.

It is really a moment to express our gratitude to all our people who have demonstrated exemplary resilience, grit and empathy in this current scenario," said Raj Raghavan, Senior VP and Head of Human Resources at IndiGo.

Also, the management at IndiGO airlines is not refraining from shelling out salaries for their staff as they are nothing less than frontline workers, coming forward to help their nation in such tough times. When BW asked Raghavan on how his team is able to shell timely salaries to all its employees without any paycuts or layoffs, he said that, “As an LCC, we continually review our costs and strive to be lean and nimble. Employee costs are only one among the several costs we incur and our intent is to attack all wastes and costs as much as possible.”

Further, the airline has also launched a Plasma Donor Bank initiative last week, with assistance from employees who have recovered from COVID-19 in the past three months, said the company, adding some 110 employees have come forward (so far) to volunteer for donating plasma.
