In a significant move, Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) promoted 2,263 employees in a single day, as announced on Sunday. The promotion orders, which were issued by the company's Chairman and Managing Director, Musharraf Ali Faruqui, spanned various ranks—from junior linemen to chief general manager-level officers.
According to the official statement, the promotions were distributed across multiple departments: 101 employees in the engineering division, 47 in accounts, 2,099 in the Operation & Maintenance (O&M) wing, and 16 officers in Personnel & General (P&G) services.
Among the notable promotions, two Superintendent Engineers (SEs) were elevated to Chief Engineers, while a General Manager was promoted to the position of Joint Secretary. Additionally, eight Divisional Engineers (DEs) advanced to SEs, 30 Assistant Divisional Engineers were promoted to DEs, 58 Assistant Engineers/Assistant Executive Engineers moved up to Assistant Divisional Engineers, and 1,650 junior linemen were promoted to assistant linemen.
This long-awaited wave of promotions had been delayed since 2017, causing many employees to retire without receiving their due advancements. The issue was recently raised with Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who directed the SPDCL CMD to expedite the process. As a result, the promotion orders were finally issued on Sunday.
The CMD also confirmed that steps would be taken to fill the vacancies created by these promotions, in accordance with the directives of the State government.
