TCS faces challenges filling 80,000 open positions due to a skills gap, reported the Times of India. Amar Shetye, global operations head of TCS's Resource Management Group (RMG), highlighted that this mismatch in skills is forcing the company to rely on contractors.
Indian IT giants, including TCS, are also delaying the onboarding of fresh graduates, affecting over 10,000 freshers in the past two years, according to the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES). Harpreet Singh Saluja, president of NITES, stated that candidates from major IT firms like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Zensar, and LTIMindtree have reported delays.
Infosys, for instance, notified candidates that joining dates would be aligned with business needs, with a minimum 3-4 weeks' notice. The company hired only 11,900 campus recruits in the financial year 2023-24, a significant drop from the previous year's 50,000.
