The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has named R Lakshmi Kanth Rao as Executive Director (ED) effective immediately.
Before assuming the role of ED, Rao held the position of Chief General Manager-in-Charge in the Department of Regulation.
With over thirty years of experience at the Reserve Bank, Rao has worked extensively in areas such as Regulation of Banks and NBFCs, Supervision of Banks, and Consumer Protection.
Previously, Rao served as Banking Ombudsman at RBI Chennai and as Regional Director of Uttar Pradesh at Lucknow. He has also contributed to various Committees and Working Groups, shaping policy formulation.
In his new role as Executive Director, Rao will oversee the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation, the Right to Information Act (FAA), and the Department of Communication.
Rao holds a bachelor's degree in commerce and a master's degree in business administration (Finance) from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. He is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF), holding a Diploma in TIRM (IIBF).
