The Prime Minister Internship Scheme has received an overwhelming response, with over 1.55 lakh candidates already registered, surpassing the initial target of 1.25 lakh set for the pilot project. The registration portal, which opened on 12 October, has seen a flood of applications from individuals aged 21-24.
Internships under the scheme are set to begin on 2 December, offering participants monthly financial assistance of Rs 5,000 for 12 months, alongside a one-time grant of Rs 6,000. The programme, being implemented by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, aims to connect young professionals with top-tier companies across sectors like oil, gas, travel, and hospitality.
The scheme was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the 2024 Union Budget, with an estimated pilot project cost of Rs 800 crore.
