L&T Appoints Gopi Thangavel As Group CIO

In his new role, Thangavel will concentrate on enhancing operational efficiency, cybersecurity, and aligning digital projects with L&T’s strategic business objectives

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has appointed Gopi Thangavel as its Group Chief Information Officer (CIO), entrusting him with steering the company’s digital transformation strategy. In his new role, Thangavel will concentrate on enhancing operational efficiency, cybersecurity, and aligning digital projects with L&T’s strategic business objectives.

Thangavel brings over 20 years of experience to L&T, having previously worked at Reliance Industries for more than six years in senior executive roles, including Vice President and Senior Vice President. At Reliance, he managed enterprise infrastructure across various segments such as hydrocarbon, petrochemicals, Jio, e-commerce, retail, life sciences, and healthcare, as well as the integration of new acquisitions.

Gopi’s expertise spans IT management, cybersecurity, IT operations, and service delivery across industries, including manufacturing, logistics, finance, and telecom. Reflecting on his departure from Reliance, Thangavel expressed gratitude on LinkedIn for the support of his colleagues, including Anish Shah, Jyotindra Thacker, and Kiran Thomas, calling his farewell a memorable milestone in his career.

Thangavel’s background includes roles at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories as Director and Wipro as Head of Technologies, further enhancing his credentials for this new role at L&T.
