IT Behemoth TCS To Offer Hefty Packages Under Its New Hiring Tier “Prime”

The yearly salary packages for engineers hired in the Prime category would range from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 11 lakh, which is substantially more than typical entry-level offers.

This year, as part of TCS's new campus recruitment strategy "Prime," the IT behemoth is attempting to draw high-potential talent from the pool of recent graduates.
The yearly salary packages for engineers hired in the Prime category would range from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 11 lakh, which is substantially more than typical entry-level offers.

According to the well-known media house Business Standard, in a video interview, Girish Nandimath, Global Head of Talent Acquisition at TCS, explained the reasoning behind the creation of this new category. "TCS is ensuring that we can obtain the appropriate high talent through Prime. Colleges will ensure that students who receive employment offers in this category do not apply to positions with other companies.

He went on to discus the nitty-gritties in recruiting on campuses, especially with regards to offers in the "dream" category. Students who receive offers in the fantasy category typically have the option to pursue chances with other businesses, with the possibility of eventually declining offers from TCS. The purpose of this new Prime category is to reduce these risks by ensuring that high-potential candidates remain committed.

The IT services industry is undergoing significant technical changes, which is driving the pressure to secure top people. "Here, we need such high talent who are high on programming and coding potential and who also have flair for new technologies that are in the market today, like AI, GenAI, and machine learning," Nandimath added. "We have product business, we have strategic growth businesses, and research units."

Mostly, TCS has hired students in the Rs 9 lakh bracket, which different campuses refer to as "Prime."
Janardhan Santhanam, vice-president and chief learning officer of TCS, claims that this is the first time the Prime tier has been explicitly extended to encompass multiple elite universities. These hiring practices have expanded to include all business units; formerly, they were restricted to the product verticals or the research and innovation (R&I) sector.

Further, TCS intends to hire 40,000 recent college graduates in 2024–2025.
