After being refused leave by her superior while in excruciating birth pains, a 26-year-old government worker at the Women and Child Development Department in Odisha claimed to have lost her child in the womb.
When Barsha Priyadarshini was in immense pain at her office in the Kendrapara district, she claimed that a Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) had refused her leave. The event happened on October 25th, but it wasn't until Tuesday that the media learnt about it from the woman, Barsha Priyadarshini.
She claimed that when she asked CDPO Snehalata Sahoo and other officials to take her to the hospital, they disregarded her requests, and additionally the CDPO "mistreated" her.
An ultrasound later showed that Barsha's baby had passed away when her family brought her to a private hospital in Kendrapara.
Barsha, who claims that Sahoo's "mental harassment and gross negligence" caused her loss, has now written to the district collector to demand strict action against the CDPO. The CDPO responded to the accusation by stating that she was not aware of Barsha's suffering.
"The District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) has been instructed by the district administration to submit a report following an investigation of the complaint," stated Nilu Mohapatra, assistant district magistrate (ADM), Kendrapara. We will act after receiving the report.
In a post on X, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida expressed her concern over the situation and stated that she spoke with Kendrapara about it and has further directed him to immediately conduct a detailed investigation and submit a report.
The DSWO also stated that, “A committee will be formed to investigate the matter. After that, we will submit our report.”
