Boeing has decided to merge its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) department into a larger human resources team focused on talent and employee experience, according to Bloomberg, which cited sources familiar with the development. This restructuring will consolidate the DEI office with other HR functions as part of a broader strategy to streamline operations within the company.
On LinkedIn, Sara Liang Bowen, a former vice president in Boeing’s DEI division, announced her departure from the company after more than five years in the role. “It has been the privilege of my lifetime to lead Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at Boeing these past 5+ years. Our team strived every day to support the evolving brilliance and creativity of our workforce,” Bowen shared in her post.
This shift in DEI strategy coincides with Boeing’s financial efforts to bolster its position amid challenging circumstances. Earlier this week, Boeing launched a stock offering with the potential to raise up to $24.3 billion, aimed at stabilizing its finances as it faces mounting pressure from a prolonged strike by factory workers. Additionally, Boeing recently announced plans to cut approximately 17,000 jobs, about 10 per cent of its global workforce, as part of its cost-saving measures.
The consolidation of DEI functions is one aspect of Boeing’s larger reorganisation, underscoring its focus on creating a cohesive HR structure to support both talent development and employee engagement in the face of ongoing financial and operational shifts.
