Bengaluru police have advised the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) to implement a work-from-home policy for employees on Wednesday, 14 August in anticipation of heavy rainfall and potential traffic jams. The police anticipate increased traffic due to the upcoming long weekend and urge companies to consider this measure to alleviate congestion. They emphasise that this step will ensure a smoother commute for those who must travel and help manage the traffic situation, especially given the recent road blockages caused by incessant rains.
In a letter to ORRCA, Bengaluru police wrote, “This is to bring to your attention that heavy traffic congestion is expected on 14 August 2024 due to the upcoming long weekend coupled with the predicted heavy rainfall. To minimise disruptions and avoid undue delays, it is requested to bring to the notice of the member companies to consider allowing work from home (WFH) for their employees on 14.08.2024.”
“This measure will not only reduce the number of vehicles on the road but also ensure a smoother commute for all those who need to travel. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and thank you for your understanding and support in managing traffic in Bengaluru,” the letter further stated.
Commuters on the Outer Ring Road have faced severe delays, with some spending up to three or four hours in traffic due to water-logged roads and ongoing traffic issues. The police's recommendation aims to mitigate these challenges and ensure a more manageable traffic flow in the city.
