Air India Express Operations Improve As Cabin Crew Return Following Strike Resolution

The airline rescinded termination letters issued to 25 striking cabin crew members

Air India Express has witnessed operational improvements since Friday as cabin crew members have returned to work following the resolution of a disruptive strike.

Starting on 7 May night, the strike led to the cancellation of over 170 flights but was resolved by 9 May evening. In response, the airline rescinded termination letters issued to 25 striking cabin crew members.

A spokesperson for the Tata Group-operated airline, which typically runs approximately 380 flights daily, anticipates normal operations to resume within the next few days. The return of cabin crew has been facilitated by the airline's support in obtaining necessary fitness certificates for them to resume duties.

A notable improvement is expected, particularly for international flights predominantly occurring in the evening. Air India Express typically operates 120 international and 260 domestic flights daily, albeit this number fluctuates.

The recent strike led to the cancellation of 85 flights on Thursday, representing about 23 per cent of its total daily capacity. With the strike concluded, the airline is committed to swiftly reinstating its regular flight schedule and has issued apologies to affected passengers.

The strike initially erupted due to some cabin crew members reporting sick in protest over what they perceived as poor management and unequal treatment of staff at the airline.
