Zeiss, the German optics and optoelectronics leader, has launched a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru on 11 November to leverage India’s skilled technology workforce and further strengthen its research and development (R&D) efforts. Located in a 43,000 sq ft facility, Zeiss plans to hire over 600 employees initially and aims to double this number by 2028.
This new GCC will help Zeiss optimise its IT and other operational functions from India, marking a significant expansion for the company. “This centre will accelerate the digital transformation of our growing global operations and is a testament to our commitment to establishing a strong foundation for Zeiss' growth in India,” said Dhaval Radia, Zeiss India’s Chief Financial Officer.
Bengaluru, as Karnataka’s capital, is a leading hub for GCCs, housing over 570 of India’s 1,600 such centers and employing more than 5,50,000 professionals. Zeiss’ Bengaluru GCC will focus on areas like medical technologies, vision care, cybersecurity, AI, cloud solutions and digital transformation.
In addition to the GCC, Zeiss has partnered with the Karnataka government to foster an innovative R&D environment supporting emerging technologies. This collaboration will provide a platform where Zeiss can offer infrastructure and expertise, while start-ups contribute fresh ideas, ultimately working toward faster commercialization of advanced products such as AI-powered diagnostics and smart optical devices.
