X Prepares For Another Round Of Layoffs

The company has already seen significant reductions in its workforce, with more than 6,000 employees laid off since Musk’s acquisition in 2022

Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) is reportedly preparing for another round of layoffs, with the engineering department expected to be the primary target. The exact number of jobs to be cut remains unclear, but reports suggest the announcement will come soon.

This news follows Musk’s August directive requiring employees to submit a one-page summary detailing their contributions to secure stock grants. The company has already seen significant reductions in its workforce, with more than 6,000 employees laid off since Musk’s acquisition in 2022. In January 2024, nearly 1,000 employees from the Safety Staff, responsible for moderating harmful content, were let go. Reports from Australia's eSafety Commission highlighted that over 1,200 trust and safety staffers had exited X since Musk took over.

These layoffs are not isolated to X. Musk has also reduced headcount at Tesla, with a notable instance in April 2024 when the entire team responsible for the company’s superchargers was dismissed, affecting approximately 500 employees.
