Tesla's HR Head Exits Amid Layoffs

Allie Arebalo, the senior director & head HR of North America, who reported directly to CEO Elon Musk, was let go, as per media reports

Yet another Tesla executive has departed. This time, Allie Arebalo, the head of human resources who reported directly to CEO Elon Musk, was let go, according to Bloomberg sources.

This news follows Musk's implementation of two rounds of mass layoffs within a single month, reportedly affecting up to 20 per cent of Tesla's global workforce.

Tesla is currently facing significant challenges. Investors are increasingly worried about a difficult year ahead, with sales plummeting as more affordable alternatives enter the market. Musk's erratic political statements have damaged the company's reputation, and his focus on "self-driving" and AI technology has failed to reassure investors.

Arebalo's departure is the latest in a series of exits by senior executives, including VP of Powertrain and Energy Engineering Drew Baglino, Head of Public Policy Rohan Patel, and VP of Investor Relations Martin Viecha. Earlier this week, Senior Director of EV Charging Rebecca Tinucci and her 500-person team were also let go. Musk has subsequently canceled several Supercharger station leases.

Even Tesla's summer intern programme has been cut, despite its minimal impact on the company's finances and disruption to its hiring pipeline. In an email obtained by Electrek, Musk emphasised the need for Tesla to be "absolutely hard core" about layoffs, threatening to fire executives whose teams did not meet his standards of excellence, necessity, and trustworthiness.
