Tata Electronics is poised to hire over 20,000 new employees at its iPhone assembly plant in Hosur, raising the total workforce at the facility to 40,000, according to N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons. Speaking at the ceremony for a Rs 9,000 crore manufacturing unit by Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu, Chandrasekaran highlighted the group’s employment impact in the state, with over 1,50,000 direct employees across TCS, Titan, Tata Chemicals, Tata Power, IHCL, and retail businesses.
"In the last three years, we have built a state-of-the-art electronics factory in Hosur, currently employing 20,000 people, more than 15,000 of whom are women. By next year, we will double that to 40,000 employees," said Chandrasekaran. He also emphasised the broader employment ecosystem the Tata Group supports beyond direct jobs.
"This isn’t just another factory," he noted, referring to the new Tata Motors and JLR platform that will produce advanced vehicles. "Once operational, it will create 5,000 direct jobs and further develop the local ecosystem, generating even more employment opportunities."
Tata Group has made significant investments in Tamil Nadu in the past three years, including in Tata Power, Tata Electronics, and Tata Motors, alongside a Rs 2,200 crore commitment to skill development in industrial training institutes across the state.
