Target announced on Monday that it plans to hire around 1,00,000 seasonal employees for the upcoming holiday season, keeping its hiring plans in line with the last three years. This comes amid expectations that inflation-conscious shoppers will remain cautious during the key shopping period.
The seasonal workers at Target will mainly fill roles in stores and supply chain facilities. In comparison, Walmart, another retail giant, indicated that its holiday hiring strategy would remain consistent with previous years, focusing first on offering extra hours to current employees before bringing in additional staff if necessary. In 2022, Walmart hired approximately 40,000 seasonal employees.
Bain & Company, a consultancy firm, echoed the sentiment that most retailers will maintain similar seasonal hiring levels as last year. Bath & Body Works also announced plans last week to hire 30,000 seasonal employees, matching its 2023 holiday staffing figures.
