Protest Fallout: Google Fires Over 20 More Employees

The protests were against Google's involvement in the $1.2 billion cloud computing project with the Israeli government, known as Project Nimbus

Following sit-in protests at Google's offices in New York and California, the company has reportedly terminated over 20 additional employees, bringing the total to nearly 50, as per The Verge. The protests were against Google's involvement in the $1.2 billion cloud computing project with the Israeli government, known as Project Nimbus. According to Jane Chung from No Tech for Apartheid, some fired employees were "non-participating bystanders."

Earlier, nine protesters were arrested during the demonstrations. In response, Google's head of security, Chris Rackow, condemned the actions, describing them as "unacceptable" and "extremely disruptive." Subsequently, 28 employees were fired after an investigation by the company.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai emphasised the company's culture of open discussion but warned against behavior that disrupts colleagues or creates an unsafe environment. He stressed that Google is a business, not a platform for personal agendas or political debates. Preserving a culture of vibrant discussion while ensuring a respectful work environment remains crucial for the company.
