Edtech unicorn Physics Wallah has secured its largest funding round yet, raising $210 million. The round was led by India-focused hedge fund Hornbill Capital, with contributions from Lightspeed Venture Partners, GSV and WestBridge Capital. This latest influx of capital has brought the company's valuation to $2.8 billion.
The Noida-based startup is planning to expand its workforce by 1,000 employees over the next six to nine months. According to co-founder Prateek Maheshwari, the new hires will support both existing operations and upcoming ventures. “We’re focusing on hiring across departments, including marketing, sales, technology, and business development, for our main business as well as our subsidiaries,” Maheshwari said. Currently, Physics Wallah employs around 15,000 people.
In addition to bolstering its core business, the funds will also fuel potential acquisitions. “We see great opportunity in South India and are considering assets strong in the region. We're also exploring acquisitions in content and academics, like publishing houses, to integrate into our business,” Maheshwari noted.
