The National Commission for Women (NCW), in partnership with CyberPeace, has inaugurated the Digital Shakti Center, an initiative designed to empower women through comprehensive cyber safety education and practical technology training. This center aims to transform the digital landscape for women, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in today's technology-driven world.
The Digital Shakti Center is committed to equipping women with the tools they need to navigate the digital landscape confidently and securely. The center will provide training facilities that will be equipped with the latest technology to ensure participants receive the best education possible. Expert guidance is provided by industry leaders and cybersecurity specialists who bring real-world experience and insights to every session. The center fosters a strong sense of community and support, connecting women tech enthusiasts and professionals committed to creating safe digital spaces. Participants also have access to an array of resources, including legal advice, technical tools, and a dedicated reporting center for cyber issues, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle any challenges they may face online.
Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women said, "With the alarming rise in cybercrime cases in India, from 52,974 in 2021 to 65,893 in 2022, the National Commission for Women has noted a significant increase in complaints specifically related to cyber crimes against women. In 2023, the Commission registered 608 such complaints, accounting for 2.2% of the total, and as of August 1st, 2024, this number has reached 386, making up 2.5% of all complaints. Recognizing the urgent need for action, we have taken decisive steps to establish the Digital Shakti Center, a pioneering initiative aimed at empowering women in the fields of cybersecurity and technology. This center is designed to equip women with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate and secure the digital landscape confidently”.

The Digital Shakti Center will offer a variety of programmes to cater to the diverse needs of women. Interactive workshops cover emerging technologies like AI, quantum computing, cyber safety, data privacy, and digital rights, providing participants with hands-on experience and practical knowledge. Certification programs enable women to become certified Digital Shakti First Responders, leading community safety initiatives and making a tangible impact in their communities. Live demonstrations offer real-time cyber simulations, allowing participants to learn defensive strategies and gain a deeper understanding of cybersecurity practices.
The Digital Shakti Center serves as the Center of Excellence for the Digital Shakti 5.0 campaign, which aims to empower 10 lakh women across India by enhancing their digital skills and awareness. This center provides a vital space for hands-on training, supporting the campaign's objectives and ensuring that women are equipped to thrive in the digital age.
