Microsoft Layoffs Continue, Xbox Division Hit

The move is part of Microsoft's efforts to reduce costs and streamline its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard

Microsoft is set to cut 650 jobs within its Xbox division, as reported by Bloomberg, marking the company's third round of layoffs this year. The move is part of Microsoft's efforts to reduce costs and streamline its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

According to a memo sent by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer on 12 September 2024, the job cuts will primarily affect corporate and support roles. However, Spencer reassured employees that "no games, devices, or experiences are being cancelled, and no studios are being closed as part of these adjustments."

Earlier this year, Microsoft slashed up to 1,900 jobs, many from Activision units and studios. In May, the company closed four studios acquired during its $7.5 billion purchase of ZeniMax.
