Humble Games, a subsidiary of Humble Bundle, has confirmed the layoffs of its entire staff as part of a restructuring effort, dispelling rumors of a complete shutdown.
"In these challenging economic times for indie game publishing, Humble Games has made the difficult but necessary decision to restructure our operations," stated the publisher, known for titles such as Unpacking, Slay the Spire, and Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus.
The company emphasised that this decision was made after extensive deliberation, aiming to ensure the stability and support of its developers and ongoing projects. Additionally, they reassured that the restructuring at Humble Games will not affect operations at Humble Bundle.
The announcement followed reports from Humble Games employees on LinkedIn. One employee wrote, "At 9 am this morning, 36 employees of Humble Games were told that we were being let go and that the company is shutting down."
Another employee echoed this sentiment, stating, "Unfortunately, all of us at Humble Games were impacted today, and a lot of good people are looking for work and would really appreciate your support."
Humble Games acknowledged in a LinkedIn post that it deeply empathises with those affected and is committed to navigating this difficult situation with empathy and understanding.
According to former employee Chris Radley, the company's ongoing projects will be completed by a third-party consultancy. He clarified, "I want it to be made abundantly clear that this is NOT a restructuring of operations. This is a total shutdown of Humble Games. Operations have been handed off to a third-party consultancy. NO staff are left."
