Disney announced its plan to fire off 300 employees as part of a cost-cutting measure at a surprise meeting. Among the departments affected by this wave of layoffs are human resources, legal, editorial, and finance.
Roughly 140 employees have alredy been affected from its television vision in July 2024.
One of the people affected by this layoff was Christine Collins, an acquisition assistant editor at Disney, who sent a touching message on LinkedIn. Acording to him, during an unexpected meeting the same day in a conference room with HR and a manager a few levels above her, Disney revealed that she would be losing her job.
"My time at Disney•Hyperion has been defined by firsts. First full-time job after college. First promotion. First acquisition. First auction pre-empt. First starred review (followed by several more starred reviews!). First state award. First national recognition for my books. And now, the “first” that everyone hopes not to experience: first layoff,” Christine posted on LinkedIn.
