Foursquare Cuts 25% Workforce

This move is part of the company's efforts to streamline operations and achieve financial sustainability

Foursquare, a US-based geospatial platform, has announced a reduction of 25 per cent of its workforce, affecting 105 employees. This move is part of the company's efforts to streamline operations and achieve financial sustainability.

The announcement was made on 27 May 2024, by Foursquare Labs, renowned for its local search-and-discovery mobile app. CEO Gary Little communicated the layoffs to employees via email, emphasising the necessity of operational streamlining to maintain financial stability.

According to a TechCrunch report, affected employees were immediately cut off from the company's systems following the layoffs. The CEO's email did not outline future plans for the company.

The layoffs impacted several divisions within Foursquare, including Foursquare City Guide, Visits, and OCF. Additionally, the company announced a halt on several initiatives, such as Mobile Developers Tools, Geode, and the current version of FSQ insights. This reduction in workforce is not unprecedented for Foursquare, which previously laid off employees during its merger with Factual and underwent another round of job cuts in 2022.
