In a social media post on Wednesday, Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal stated that he is on the search spree for a Chief of Staff role. According to Goyal's comprehensive job description, which includes some unconventional guidelines, the candidate would not receive a salary for the first year and must instead make a charitable donation of Rs 20 lakhs.
Goyal's tweet read; "I am looking for a chief of staff for myself.".
The candidate must be "hungry, have a lot of common sense, empathy, should be down to earth, and have zero entitlement," according to the guidelines listed in Goyal's post. After that, they must have Grade A communication skills, a learning mindset, and the resolve to act morally.
In exchange, the candidate will gain ten times more learning experience and have the opportunity to collaborate closely with Goyal and some of the most intelligent individuals in consumer technology, even though the role asks them to do "anything and everything" to shape Zomato's future.
The most interesting part is the salary details. “There is no salary for this role for the first year. You will have to, in fact, pay Rs 20 lakhs for this opportunity. 100 per cent of this fee will be paid in the form of a donation directly to Feeding India," it said further adding that Zomato will also contribute Rs 50 lakhs to a charity of the candidate’s choice. In the end, the candidate will begin earning the standard wage in the second year, which Goyal stated should exceed 50 lakhs. But wage talks won't start until the beginning of Year 2.
People should view it as a learning opportunity or a fast-track learning program, the notice says, explaining the reasoning behind paying such a high salary for a position. It states at the end that those who are interested can just write a 200-word cover letter and that no résumé is required.
