Corning Launches New Digital & IT Center In Pune; To Create 100 Jobs

The center will enhance the operations in information technology, which require expertise in supply chain, data, cyber, and other digital areas

Today Corning Incorporated, an innovator in materials science, announced the launch of its new Digital & IT Center, a global capability center (GCC), in Pune, Maharashtra. The center will foster new digital talent, helping Corning fill the technology roles of the future and support the company’s growth both in the region and globally.

The new center will create about 100 new jobs over the next two years and enhance the company’s operations in information technology, which require expertise in supply chain, data, cyber, and other digital areas. It is located near the company’s existing research, development, and engineering facility, Corning Research Center India.

“As Corning expands its expertise in key areas of digital innovation, we see great potential in India – and in Pune in particular,” said Soumya Seetharam, Senior Vice President and Chief Digital and Information Officer at Corning. “For our team in India, the sky is the limit. We’re seeking to hire top talent to support our technologies, while giving them opportunities to grow in their roles and careers.”

For more than 60 years, Corning has played a vital role in India’s innovation journey. Over the past two years, the company opened its Wireless India Development Center to help global and Indian enterprises adopt 5G technology and established a joint venture with SGD Pharma for a new glass-tubing facility. Last year’s joint venture with Optiemus Infracom will bring the first-ever local cover-glass finishing plant to the country’s growing mobile consumer electronics industry.

“We’re excited to hire skilled professionals who can help us harness data in new ways, especially for smart manufacturing and the rapidly growing adoption of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Since the 1960s, Corning has played a vital role in driving India’s innovation journey – we now want to become vital to India’s manufacturing and services sectors,” said Sudhir Pillai, Managing Director, Corning India. “Our new Digital & IT Center will allow us to advance these capabilities – along with ERP and cybersecurity – for Corning’s locations in India and around the world.”
