The parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, Meta, have begun to slash its staff members across deprtments. The social media behemoth has announced layoffs in a number of important departments, including its main platforms, WhatsApp and Instagram. Social media reports reporting the layoffs at Meta Platforms suggest that workers from a variety of teams, including Threads, recruiting, legal operations, and design, were impacted.
A few Meta staff members have started to disclose their layoffs.
Although it's yet unknown how many people are being laid off right now, rumours indicate that these reductions are a part of a larger initiative to decrease expenses and streamline operations.
The most recent layoff announcement coincides with reports that show a slowdown in user growth and increased competition for Meta's primary social media platforms.
After hiring a large number of people during the pandemic, Meta has been reducing its employment in recent years. CEO Mark Zuckerberg was held accountable for the company's 2022 layoffs, which resulted in the loss of 11,000 people, or 13% of its workforce. In 2023, Meta eliminated 5,000 open positions and laid off an additional 10,000 employees
