Vedanta Aluminium, India's leading aluminium producer, has unveiled its transformative initiative, 'Panchhi - Sapno Ka Udaan,' aimed at uplifting and empowering socio-economically disadvantaged girls in the Sundargarh district's coal mining areas of Odisha.
The initiative, which marks a significant step towards recruiting and educating girls from displaced families, was inaugurated with enthusiasm and participation from sixteen local girls from Girisima, Jamkani, Jharapalam, and Mendra villages, situated within the jurisdiction of the Jamkani mining project in Sundargarh district.
During the launch event sponsored by Vedanta, Sundargarh Sub-Collector Dasharathi Saraboo distributed identity cards to the participants, symbolizing their inclusion and support in this groundbreaking initiative.
V. Srikanth, CEO of Vedanta's Mining Division, commended the initiative as a beacon of hope for the future of girls from displaced families in mining communities. He lauded the visionary leadership of Vedanta's founder and chairman, Anil Agarwal, whose brainchild this initiative is.
The event commenced with opening remarks from Ashish Kumar, Head of Human Resources at Vedanta, followed by facilitation by Kashik Yadav and a vote of thanks extended by Sangeeta Sahu, highlighting the collaborative effort driving the 'Panchhi - Sapno Ka Udaan' project.
The primary objective of the initiative is to provide wings to the aspirations of young, educated girls by offering them job opportunities aligned with their qualifications. Additionally, it aims to support displaced girls in completing their higher education, thereby ensuring a brighter future for them despite the challenges they face due to displacement from mining areas.
Through 'Panchhi - Sapno Ka Udaan,' Vedanta is actively transforming the dreams of young women in mining communities into reality, particularly in the Jamkani coal mining project areas. The initiative not only empowers educated young women through merit-based recruitments but also extends a helping hand to those who had to discontinue their education due to unavoidable circumstances.
Vedanta remains committed to fostering socio-economic development and empowerment in the regions where it operates, and 'Panchhi - Sapno Ka Udaan' exemplifies its dedication to creating positive change and opportunities for the communities it serves.
