Tata Power, one of India's oldest integrated power companies has been onboarding a large number of freshers every year with a vision to support the power of young talent. The organisation welcomes more than 500 fresh graduates every year powering the green transition.
On 16 July 2023, the organisation along with forty freshers, trekked along the Walwan Lake which powers Mumbai’s first hydropower plant, set up in Khopoli in 1915. The group of freshers was led by Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director and Himal Tewari, Chief Human Resource Officer of Tata Power.
The company envisioned the adventure to instil values of resilience, risk-taking and perseverance among the young talent. Sinha viewed this as an opportunity to enlighten the freshers about clean, affordable and abundant power at the place of the plant's inception.
"Tata Power fosters a work culture that prioritizes holistic growth and well-being of its employees. These unique experiences cultivate a sense of bonding and shared purpose, fostering team building and nurturing leadership qualities. We firmly believe in the power of youth empowerment and understand that engaged teams are the driving force behind our mission of green energy transition and creating future-ready utilities." says Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power
The seven hours long employee engagement activity proved to be a great medium for the freshers to connect with the top management. The new recruits were also handed a bag of seeds to disperse along the trail.
This move allowed the freshers to understand the construction, architecture and engineering of the Walwan, Shirotta and Kundali Lakes and highlighted the importance of employee engagement initiatives for a better understanding of real-time concepts.
