The workers' strike at Samsung India's manufacturing plant near Chennai has officially ended following successful negotiations between the workers and the company management. The strike, which had been ongoing for 37 days, was resolved on 15 October after the Tamil Nadu government intervened with conciliatory discussions.
In a statement, the Tamil Nadu Labour Department confirmed that the strike was called off after Chief Minister MK Stalin and other officials engaged with both parties. Following the talks, it was agreed that work would resume immediately, with several welfare measures introduced for the workers.
Samsung India expressed its gratitude for the resolution, highlighting that no punitive action would be taken against workers who participated in the strike. A company spokesperson stated, "Samsung India welcomes CITU’s decision to call off the illegal strike. We thank the government of Tamil Nadu for its support and welcome our workers back. We are committed to making the Chennai factory a great place to work."
Additionally, the management provided written assurance to address the demands of the workers, as filed with the conciliation officer. Both the company and the workers have pledged to cooperate moving forward, with the workers committing not to engage in any actions that could harm the interests of the company.
