Numerous Air India Express flights faced cancellations as cabin crew members staged a "mass sick leave," resulting in disruptions to both international and domestic services.
The sudden sick leave affected approximately 300 senior cabin crew members, who switched off their mobile phones, leaving the airline management scrambling to address the situation. The protests stem from discontentment over new employment terms at the Tata Group-owned airline.
Passengers expressed frustration on social media after being caught off guard by the flight cancellations, with some travelers reporting that they were informed of the cancellations only upon reaching the airport. The crew alleges unequal treatment and modifications to compensation packages following the merger with Tata Group.
The crisis follows recent disruptions at Vistara, another Tata Group carrier, where pilot concerns over new contracts and rostering issues led to flight cancellations.
