In a story that seems quintessentially Bengaluru, India's startup hub, an intern at a tech company quit his internship after his own AI startup secured funding. The incident was shared by Karthik Sridharan, the CEO and co-founder of Flexiple, a global platform connecting tech talent with employers.
The news came to light when Sridharan shared a screenshot of his WhatsApp conversation with the unnamed intern. Curious about why the intern missed work on Friday, Sridharan reached out to inquire. The intern responded candidly, explaining that he had taken the day off to meet with a venture capitalist.
To Sridharan’s surprise, the intern revealed that his AI startup had received funding, making the internship unnecessary. "Hey, sorry I took a leave because I had a meeting with a VC. My AI startup got funded. I don’t need the internship anymore," the intern informed him.
Sridharan, amused by the situation, shared the exchange on social media platform X, captioning it, “This only happens in Bangalore.”
The post quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions online. Some applauded the intern for his entrepreneurial success, wishing him well on his new venture. However, others criticised the intern for the abrupt manner in which he quit his current role.
