After laying off 11,000 employees in 2022 and another 10,000 in 2023, Meta has initiated another wave of job cuts, though this time on a significantly smaller scale. The layoffs are impacting teams across WhatsApp, Instagram, Threads and other divisions.
Meta employee Jane Manchun Wong, known for her work in software and security engineering, shared on Threads that she was among those laid off. In her post, Wong expressed gratitude for her time at Meta and encouraged others interested in collaborating to contact her.
In a statement, Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold confirmed the restructuring, stating, “A few teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources align with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy.” Arnold added that some employees are being relocated or moved into different roles. Although Meta has not disclosed the exact number of layoffs, the company emphasized its focus on offering alternative roles for impacted employees.
Earlier this year, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared his vision of a leaner, more efficient organisation. He expressed that a streamlined workforce would allow the company to focus on its top priorities, fostering productivity and satisfaction among employees.
