We are looking to transform the way people behave and think at workplaces whether it is the prevention of sexual harassment (PoSH), diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I), code of conduct or bribery and corruption, founder & CEO of Rainmaker, Antony J Alex said.
Alex focuses on DE&I promoting a welcoming, diverse, harassment and discrimination-free workplace and emphasises the company's values and best practices and said, “In the last 10 to 15 years, women have taken leadership positions in India which shows positive impacts of the policies.”
The representation of board by women has tripled in the previous 10 years and at least 95 per cent of the nifty 500 companies have at least one woman on their board members, he added.
At the same time, Alex admits that only 5 per cent of these companies have a woman chairperson. So, companies are inducting women but they are unable to reach the top position.
He also noticed that the inclusion of women is not totally organic but it is happening because Indian laws compel companies to have at least one woman board member.
By citing a report from Harvard Business Review, he said the participation of women in India the board members is more scattered which is a piece of good news for us but in a country like Norway, where, a small group of women sitting on all the boards like in Norway.
To make a more equitable workplace, he suggests that shareholders and boards of the company need to put pressure on management to say that they like to see greater participation of women and timely implementation of laws and policies.
