Inaugural session of India’s largest Global Diversity and Inclusion

Today is a significant milestone in the sphere of diversity and inclusion in India. BW People and Ask Insights present India’s Largest Global Diversity and Inclusion on 23rd February 2018 at The Leela Ambience, Gurugram. This summit is about things that are relatable, situations we face every day and even face some uncomfortable truths, truths that we have run away and turned a blind eye to for a long time. Not any more…

The summit covered organisational strategy, benchmarking assessments, gender, generational, cultural, LGBT, unconscious biases and disability in the field of diversity and inclusion.

Sunil Kumar, (President of BW Businessworld), opened the summit, “We at BW Businessworld are absolutely committed to the idea of Diversity & Inclusion, editorially and organizationally. We ensure that it's interwoven into all our activities on all our platforms - be it print, web, social media and events. We also mean to take it all our communities, including BW Hotelier, BW CIO, BW Smart Cities, BW Education, BW Disrupt and several others, with the objective to sensitise businesses, policymakers, opinion leaders and other stakeholders about how D&I works positively, profitability for everyone - the industry, workplaces, workforce and their families, economy and society.”

Niru Kumar (Founder Director, Ask Insights), remarked about “authenticity that is the deepest need in today’s world. She emphasised about the pain of not being accepted. We have not been taught to be comfortable with differences but the learning has to start somewhere. Let’s start learning inclusive behavior now and let’s take it very seriously. Diversity is not something that should happen it has already happened now we need to learn inclusion.”

Anurag Batra (chairman & editor-in-Chief of BW Businessworld), addressed the audience about the impact of media on diversity initiatives. “Global Diversity and Inclusion has been the theme for the corporative world over decades. Voluntarily approach to diversity and inclusion is more successful than making it mandatory. ”

The keynote address was followed by John Gray (Author of Men are from Mars Women are from Venus), via Skype, explained gender differences in the modern world. He discussed ways men can serve women and how the needs of modern men and women changed. Men are motivated when they feel needed while women are motivated when they feel cherished. He offers powerful insights into how men and women have lost their roles over time and how they can improve their communication by acknowledging the differences between their needs, desires, and behaviours.

Jennifer Brown  (President and CEO , Jennifer Brown Consulting), shared her vast knowledge and experience in diversity and inclusion. She well understands the importance of relationship building in challenging micro – inequities  , thereby impacting positive change and improving organisational productivity . This change so acquired leads to genuine appreciation and the courage to step out of one’s comfort zone when expanding one’s circle in order to truly live as harbingers of positive change, enhancing teamwork.

The inaugural session ended with an interactive Q&A session with the audience.
