Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal is heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of his company, so much so that he personally manages entry-level recruitment. In a recent media interview, Goyal revealed that he spends most of his time on human resources, recruiting, mentoring and coaching employees at all levels within the organisation.
“I’m also the HR guy in the organization. I am always recruiting, mentoring people, and coaching people,” Goyal shared when asked about his daily responsibilities. Despite managing four business segments—delivery, quick commerce, Hyperpure, and Going Out—his focus shifts based on the day’s priorities.
Goyal also highlighted that Zomato is primarily hiring for entry-level positions, with roles in sales and tech being the primary focus of recruitment. “We’re mainly hiring at the frontline levels now. I still personally hire for those roles,” he explained. On the other hand, senior and mid-level hiring has slowed, as Zomato now draws from a well-developed internal talent pipeline.
Looking ahead, Goyal emphasised that the company’s focus will be on execution quality as it continues to grow rapidly.
