HR Has Become Complex, Challenging And Exciting: Manoj Tandon, Dalitso

The evolution of HR over decades have been instrumental and varied. And globalization has affected the business environment and HR department. "When we see across the globe, it is not just about the distance. It is about cultural difference as well. So, this cultural difference has become relevant to the role of HR in the last couple of decades." Began Manoj Tandon, CEO Dalitso.

Speaking on the topic of the 'Evolution of HR leader’s role in powering and guiding the employees through Company's objectives', Tandon graced the CEO and CHRO conclave on the 29th of May, 2021. His keynote address highlighted how globalization has affected the business environment and HR department.

Tandon then pointed out the second challenge, the new paradigm of the globalized world, which is now also constrained by the pandemic. It is not just a challenge to run a business these days but to keep employees motivated and marching towards a common goal and objective.

"When we say HR, it means human relations. But the human part is not so strong today. We can call it from human relations to Digital Relations."

Challenges like these have led to the evolution of the HR role, making it more challenging and rewarding in today's time. Comparing and drawing parallels between a Warzone and today's business paradigm, he illustrates how with the help of proper strategies, firms can win over these difficult times. He talked about making sure all the resources are available to the employees like tech support, training, skills, etc. The second and the most important part “empowering the employees. This not only motivates him but also helps in achieving an overall objective,” said Tandon.

Elucidating the topic of his keynote further, he threw some light on the evolution of HR leader’s role to reach the common objective. He mentioned delegation as the first role. HR needs to upskill the managers with the art of delegation, “Delegations look easy, but when you start doing it, people tend to hand over the work without doing the necessary work and then the team messes up.”

As Tandon earlier emphasized giving power to the employees, he also discussed how it leads to the inception of new ideas.

"Do not discourage people to try new things because that is how you not only create a talent pool which delivers for the company. You also create a motivated employee."

Communication is also a key aspect of the role of HR in keeping employees aware of their objectives, "employees do not take risks and initiatives because they are not well aware of the expectations from them. When expectations are clear, it makes a large difference in their performance." In a time when business models are evolving and the HR leaders need to work multi-dimensionally to make the company run smoothly through the crisis. It is in these times that a well-motivated and well-awarded employee proves himself as an asset.
