The most accomplished people in the world including Albert Einstein, John Nash, Thomas Edison, Leonardo da Vinci and Stephen Hawking, all had something in common, whatever disability they ha, it never became a constraint in whatever they wanted to achieve, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Rajiv Kumar said.
“In the last two and a half years or in the last seven or eight years, I haven't gone to any functions outside the government. As a Chief Election Commissioner, this is the second outside the office, I go where my heart lies,” stated Kumar.
He further emphasised on how the election commission dwells upon voting for persons with disabilities and makes everybody sensitive and sensitised towards their needs.
As a CEC, Kumar said, “We appoint national icons from each field like sports, academics, culture, PWD, transgender and others, in order to instil a feeling of So there will be the source of inspiration, as all of them have achieved something in life and they have been championing the cause.”
“As you know, the population is close to 130 crore, of which 95 crore are our voters and a large chunk comprises of disabled people. So, we are making special efforts within our electoral roll to include everybody, even people with special needs,” he said.
I am sure what is being attempted will come from the corporate world also and there are very good examples in the corporate world as well, he added.
