To alleviate the commuting woes of its more than 1,500 employees during peak hours, the Central Railway will implement flexible working hours beginning next month.
In a letter dated 27 October, the CR's Mumbai division informed all senior officers about the two new working slots that will be implemented on 1 November for employees working at the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) office in Mumbai's iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
The first slot will be from 9.30 a.m. to 5.45 p.m., and the second from 11.30 a.m. to 7.45 p.m., according to the letter. Employees can choose a slot, but changes can only be made at the beginning of the month, with no changes permitted in the middle.
Officials stated that the initiative was taken to ensure the safety of its employees, who must travel in overcrowded local trains during peak hours, putting their lives in danger.
According to sources, the decision to allow flexible working hours was also made to reduce the load on trains that run every three and a half minutes and have a packed capacity.
The CR divisional railway manager (DRM) will hold a press conference about the new slots on Monday at its CSMT headquarters.
