The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has authorised the payment of PLB of 78 days for Rs. 2028.57 crore to 11,72,240 railway employees in appreciation of their outstanding performance.
Numerous railway employees, including track maintainers, locomotive pilots, train managers (guards), station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician helpers, pointsmen, ministerial staff, and other Group XC staff, will receive the money. PLB payments serve as a means of incentivising railway workers to strive towards enhancing the organisation's overall performance.
Eligible railway workers receive PLB payments annually prior to Durga Puja and Dusshera holidays. A PLB payment equal to 78 days' salaries is being paid to around 11.72 lakh non-gazetted railway employees this year as well.
For a period of 78 days, the maximum payment per qualified railway employee is Rs. 17,951/-. A variety of railway employees, including track maintainers, locomotive pilots, train managers (guards), station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician helpers, pointsmen, ministerial staff, and other Group 'C staff, will get the aforementioned payment.
In the years 2023–2024, Railways performed admirably. Railroads transported around 6.7 billion passengers and a record 1588 million tonnes of goods.
