On 28th March 2018, BW People organised CEO Conclave. The idea behind BW People CEO Conclave 2018 was to deliberate over the present and future challenges in the fast-changing business environment and fulfilling the expectations of various stakeholders.
Organised at the Le Meridien, Delhi, the event was attended by top personnel and eminent speakers from across India. The Conclave provided a distinctive opportunity for the leaders across industries with instrumental insights of leadership, vision, strategy and changing business needs.
The conclave was packed with enticing, one¬-of-¬a¬-kind sessions that captivates the attendees and breaks the monotony. The sessions were carried out through various formats like panel discussions, Fireside chats, videos, and keynotes.
There were five-panel discussions on Tomorrow is today, A new frontier for CIO’s in Business and Corporate functions, Rationality versus going with your gut, Evolving personally and professional and What CEOs want from CHROs?. The host of panelists were from various corporations that came together and gave interesting viewpoints.
Amo Kalar, Deputy Trade and Investment Commissioner, British High Commission inaugurated the event as a keynote speaker with a power-packed speech. His speech was followed by a fireside chat with him on – Indo –UKTrade ties post Brexit which was moderated by Taniya Tikoo, Correspondent, Foreign Policy, Diplomacy and International Affairs. A Special Presentation was delivered by Dr. Prof. S C Sharma, Director, ICFAI Business School (IBS), Gurgaon.
The first panel topic, ‘Tomorrow is today’, saw participation from Deepak Chandnani, Managing Director, Worldline South Asia, and the Middle East ; Dhiraj Relli, Managing Director & CEO, HDFC Securities Limited ; Naveen Kukreja, Co-founder and CEO , Paisabazar.Com ; Umang Kumar, President, Girnarsoft ; Amit Ramani, CEO & Co-founder , AWFIS ; M Murali, MD, Shriram Properties and Ashu Malhotra , Market Lead - Indian Sub-Continent and Malaysia Global Human Resource Solutions. Director on Board, Cargill. The panel was moderated by Sunil Kumar, President, BW Businessworld. Unlike a few years ago, it is not easier to predict company’s long-term plans. In today’s world, business strategies change daily. The panel discussion covered the top global and domestic trends that should be on CEO’s radar.
The second panel was on 'a new frontier for CIO’s in Business and Corporate functions', presented by Servicenow. The panel included Jaideep Verma, CIO, Netmagic; Venu Gopal Arcot Subbarao, Head Solutions Consulting India, Servicenow; Avinash Velhal, Group CIO – APAC, India & Middle East, Atos International and Neeraj Mehta, Head Corporate IT, Apollo Tyres. It was moderated by Sangram Aglave, Consulting Editor, BW Businessworld.
During the third panel discussion on ‘Rationality versus going with your gut’, the attendees being Vikas Gupta, Managing Director, Wiley; Naghma Mulla, Chief Operating Officer, EdelGive Foundation; Siddharth Kothari, Promoter & Chief Investment Strategist, Om Kothari Group; Sidharth Balakrishna, CEO, SITI Cable and Zee; Jasmeet Gandhi, Chief Business Officer, Goqii ; Swadeep Srivastava, Founder & Chief Belief Officer, India Virtual Hospital and Ankur Sethi, CEO & Co-founder, Corporate Shiksha. It was moderated by Salil Kapoor, COO, Voltas UPBG Div. The discussion revolves around the idea that It is not easy to rise from being just a “boss” to a leader. Cliched, but yet an unknown recipe -- what makes a great leader? What is the role of rationality versus going with your gut? What are the factors that the so-called 'gut' feeling had already calculated?
The panel discussion was followed by a special presentation on 'A wellness ecosystem for your employees" was presented by Jasmeet Singh Gandhi, Chief Business Officer, Goqii.
The fourth panel was on ‘Evolving personally and professional’ comprised Manasije Mishra, MD, Indian Health Organisation & Aetna India ; Neeraj Sharma, Country Head, Spreadtrum India ; Anshu Bagai, MD, Jeunesse Global India Pvt Ltd; Vikas Jain, MD, Anytime Fitness; S Viswanathan, Chief People Officer, NIIT Technologies; Arun Thukral, MD and CEO, Axis Securities and Shantanu Das, CHRO, Amway. Richard Rekhy, Former CEO, KPMG served as the moderator. The discussion talked about How does a CEO keep an edge through evolving life stages, personally and professionally? With responsibility, comes stress. How to maintain a healthy balance between sanity of mind, family, health, and profession?
It was followed by a video from Europa Security.
The last panel discussion was on 'What CEOs want from CHROs?'. The members were Gurdeep S. Hora, Managing Director, Synergy Consultants; Puja Kapoor, CHRO, Evalueserve; Kisha Gupta, Talent Acquisition Head, Infosys Global; James Thomas, Country Manager, India, Kronos Incorporated; BN Thammaiah, MD, Kelly Services India and Kushal Agarwal, Co-Founder, Xoxoday. Gaurav Chaubey, Director, Grant Thornton was the moderator. The discussion went around Chief Human Resource Officer along with his department has a critical job to do. What are the expectations of the CEOs from CHROs and in turn, what CHROs demand from their CEOs? How they both align the culture of the workplace for better sustainability?
The event was wrapped up by a fireside chat with Kunwer Sachdev, Managing Director of Su-Kam Power Systems. The session was moderated by Brij Pahwa, Editorial Specialist, BW Businessworld.
