The Mumbai police have filed charges against two workers of the online retailer Big Basket for allegedly defrauding the business of around Rs 80 lakh by submitting fictitious invoices. The corporation filed a complaint, which led to the filing of the FIR.
According to reports, the two would request that businesses that provided delivery cars submit exaggerated invoices for approval. Assistant Inspector Avinash Nadvinkeri, the investigating officer, stated, "At this time, no arrests have been made." We're investigating to see if there are any further fraudsters. There are still investigations underway.
According to the FIR, Dhruv Desai has been employed as a transport manager at the Big Basket warehouse in Bhandup since 2018. He was responsible for overseeing the transportation needs of almost seven additional warehouses in addition to the Bhandup warehouse.
The Bhandup warehouse was audited by the company's vigilance section in June 2024. They discovered that a transport business received Rs 5.15 lakh more in payments between October 2022 and October 2023 than should have been given for the 13 bills that were turned in.
Upon speaking with the owner of the transport company, they learned that Desai and his helper Mahesh Menon were responsible for the inflated charge. He said that Desai threatened to sever their relationship with Big Basket if they did not comply with the demand.
According to the company's complaint, they examined every bill that Desai filed over a two-year period and discovered that he would withhold the bills that were sent to the vendors.
