Winning Stroke: Interview With Rohan Bhargava, Co-Founder, CashKaro

If not in the current profession, you would be?

If not running CashKaro, I would be a teacher. I feel a strong affinity towards education and learning.

One tune you always hum.

I think the song changes almost weekly. I currently find myself humming ‘Gustakh Dil’ from English Vinglish.

One book to read when you want to motivate yourself.

While lots of books have inspired me, the Alchemist remains my all-time favorite. Such a simple story, but full of valuable morals.

One dialogue of a movie that motivates you or you like the most.

"Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life, but it ain't how hard you can hit. It's how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. It's how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done." - From Rocky Balboa

The place you never been to and always want to go

Galapagos Islands has been on top of the list. You can be close to nature here, as these islands are famous for endemic wildlife, and exotic seascapes.

An animal that signifies you & why?

Spider. A spider keeps working to create its masterpiece, the web and aims for perfection. Knock it down, and it starts again.

A Movie Character you most resemble or resonate with

Rocky. I believe success comes from crazy hard work and the magic of luck at the right time.

If your life was to be turned into a movie who would you like to play your part?

Aamir Khan – perhaps the best actor in my books.

Luck or Hard Work, what do you think weighs more in defining a successful person?

I read a quote that said, "The harder I work, the luckier I get". Luck plays a huge part in success, but that’s outside your control. Even with the right luck you still need to work hard to succeed. Hence, hard work weighs more.

One best decision you ever made.

Looking back at over 7 years, convincing my wife and Co-Founder, Swati, to start CashKaro with me would be the best decision I have ever made.

A strategy that you always use to take your decisions in Personal or professional life?

"Follow your heart and intuition". My best decisions and outcomes have been following this simple principle.

Whose advice do you seek when in a dilemma?

My family. Depending on the dilemma, I can turn to different members of my family for the right thing to do. They tell me not what I want to hear, but the honest truth.

What has been your biggest achievement?

Building CashKaro to where it is would be my biggest achievement. We have helped millions of Indians save over Rs 500 crores. The company employs over 100 awesome individuals who are in-turn supporting many more.

We have a long way to go, but I am proud of what we have been able to achieve together.

One thing that you want to change in yourself.

In the current work-from-home environment in particular, my working hours have significantly gone up. This means lesser time for family and personal goals. Would definitely want to change that and find a little more balance.

A line said by your close one that you never forget.

“The hardest worker is the donkey – work smart, not just hard.”
