What Is Swiggy's 'Paw-ternity' Policy For Employees?

Swiggy has unveiled a novel initiative, the 'Paw-ternity' policy, aimed at offering support to its employees in matters related to pet care and adoption. This progressive policy grants employees an additional paid day off, in addition to their standard annual leave entitlement, to help them accommodate and welcome new furry companions into their homes.

This announcement, made on National Pet Day, observed annually on April 11th, underscores Swiggy's commitment to promoting a compassionate and inclusive workplace culture.

Girish Menon, CHRO, Swiggy, said in a blog post, “Building on our gender-neutral parental policy introduced in 2020, which provides substantial paid leave for primary and secondary caregivers, in addition to bonding leaves, and time off for adoption, surrogacy, miscarriage and IVF, we are now expanding our definition of parenthood to include pet parents as well. And that’s why, starting today, we’re announcing the Swiggy Paw-ternity Policy for all full-time employees.”

Furthermore, recognising the profound emotional bond between pet parents and their animal companions, Swiggy will also introduce bereavement leave for employees who experience the loss of a beloved pet. This compassionate approach aims to provide pet parents with the necessary time and space to grieve and recover from the emotional impact of losing a cherished member of their family.

“We understand that saying goodbye to a beloved family member can be a deeply emotional and challenging experience. That’s why our bereavement leave will now cover pets, providing employees with the time they need to grieve and recover from the loss,” he wrote.
