T Harish Rao, finance and health minister of Telangana, declared on Sunday that an insurance scheme for unorganized sector workers modelled after Rythu Bima would be introduced soon. Rao addressed a meeting of construction workers in Siddipet that a special effort would be launched to issue digital cards to workers.
From the meeting on the insurance policy, he phoned Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy and Labour Department officials. The minister also stated that the term of digital cards would be increased from five to ten years.
After consulting with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Rao stated that the insurance coverage for construction employees would be doubled from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. He recalled that workers' free health insurance coverage had been increased to Rs 5 lakh and they could receive medical treatments in both government and private facilities.
Meanwhile, Rao introduced the BC Bandhu Scheme and presented cheques for Rs 1 lakh apiece to BCs at another meeting in Siddipet. He distributed checks to 300 beneficiaries. This marked the start of the scheme, which reflects the government's persistent commitment to promoting caste-based professions, according to Harish Rao.
