Technology Is Not A Divider But On The Contrary Technology Is The Integrator: Arun Rao

The worldwide outbreak due to COVID-19 disruption has made all of us experience the unconventional safety guidelines of physical distancing to follow.  Arun Rao, Birlasoft speaks on the importance of accepting technology into the function. While practicing physical distancing, remote working and a contactless economy; technological advancements have been the best enabler for each one of us to stay connected in the era of distancing.

Arun Rao, Chief people Officer, Birlasoft speaking at BW People presents #RandstadLeadershipDialogues in association with BW Businessworld and Randstad India talking about the advantages of technology and significance of adaptability as a value for leaders and individuals to cope up with this disruption.

While pondering on advantages of technology, co-chair, Anjali Raghuvanshi asked do you think technology is a divider for people who are less technology-savvy to which Arun Rao has fairly responded and mentions that technology is truly an enabler. Adding more to the same lines he said, “Technology is really not a divider on the contrary technology is the integrator.”

Communication in this new abnormal world of physical distancing has only been possible because of technology and various digital platforms. Repeatedly Emphasized on the fact that humans created the technology and human touch can never be replaced. Speaking on the significance of humans compared to technology he mentioned, “Technology that has been created by humans has taken us to a certain specific level but it is only the human mind that can explore things beyond that.”

Talking about the ‘Technology Divide’ he arguably said that it is fairly about the comfort level of the person to accept the technology, he said, “Some people take technology as fish takes water but some people are more challenged.“

When asked about the work from home scenario he said, “WFH as a viable option has gained acceptance and has been established at a pedestal beyond doubt.” Taking the discussion further he added that there are businesses that are totally paranoid about data security and cyber security; for them, work from home will remain as a fair option.

Concluding his point on the new abnormal and how business models will look like, Rao stated that “You can work on a compromised model but the success will only come when you collaborate.”
