Pixar Animation Studios announced on Tuesday that it will be reducing its workforce by about 14 per cent, affecting approximately 175 employees. This significant reduction marks the largest workforce change since the studio's inception and aligns with Disney CEO Bob Iger's broader strategy to restructure the company, emphasising quality over quantity in content production.
Owned by the Walt Disney Company, Pixar is renowned for its animated films such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles. The studio revealed that it will shift its focus from producing streaming series for Disney+ to prioritizing theatrical releases.
This latest round of layoffs at Pixar follows the announcement less than a year ago that it would be cutting 75 jobs, the first such reductions in a decade.
