Microsoft recently released its Work Trend Index Special Report, sharing insights into how generative AI at work provides an opportunity to not only transform personal productivity but lift the capability of organisations. Microsoft surveyed 18,100 people in 12 countries across six key functions to better understand the broader opportunity for generative AI to fundamentally transform business process.
Key findings from the report include:
Perceived Productivity Gains of Copilot
- People surveyed in India mentioned that they are drowning in digital debt. In fact, they estimate spending more time searching for information (27 per cent of their day) than creating (24 per cent), communicating (24 per cent), or consuming (25 per cent)

Copilot’s Impact on Meetings, Email, Information Search, and Writing:
- Respondents from India mentioned that 52 per cent of the information they consume each day is deemed necessary for their job
- Globally as well, only half (50 per cent) of the information respondents consume each day is necessary for their jobs
Role-Specific Pain Points and Opportunities
- In India, 88 per cent of respondents in finance said that generative AI helped them simplify financial reporting, while 87 per cent said that it helped them stay in a productive workflow
- While globally in finance, 73 per cent of people cited that generative AI helped them simplify financial reporting, and 72 per cent said that it helped them in validating data quality
As the use of generative AI at work spreads, the real opportunity is to not only transform personal productivity but lift the capability of the entire organisation. Eight months since its introduction, Copilot, Microsoft’s AI tool, has emerged as a game-changer, ushering in a new era of productivity, creativity and time efficiency.
